Long-Form Haiku:

can you feel the dark
drawing closer daily
shadows of terror

faces haunt the night
explosions rocking buildings
bodies embracing

blood is on our hands
our government betrayed us
don't lie to yourself

soon the bomb will come
gutting your home and my home
the chickens will roost

this is nature's law
each action a reaction
there is no escape

we will pay her soon
loose our jobs overseas
unions who needs 'em

Hitler's path was cut
World War I brought World War II
Germany starved

Vietnam's soldiers
shunned for losing the war
grief became anger

cloaked in ideals
for hippies who wanted life
peace was the answer

but they forgot this
and turning to making money
in better times

Reagan's new converts
yuppies drunk on cash power
a new religion

the first oily war
we told Saddam to go in
so we could fuck him

took all that we could
when the first robber baron
ruled the white house

and little W
busy snorting and drinking
his brother stealing

old yuppies screamed
we must protect our interests
don't look at their dead

black oil for red blood
ideals exchanged for cash
this is how it starts

me generation
killing opportunity
stealing the future

the developed
undevelopedevelops itself
super powers gone

remember the 30s
the dust bowl - Great Depression
think it can’t happen?

our Rome will fall down
some will wonder what we did
but not me, not I

I'll be wondering
where the next empire will fall
because they all do

Egypt, Portugal
Greece, Rome, India, England
ex-empires all
